Michael Binger, CFA®

Michael Binger, CFA, serves as President of Gradient Investments, LLC, bringing more than 31 years of investment management experience to the firm and its affiliated advisors and clients. He has worked extensively with financial advisors to design and actively manage portfolios, navigating numerous market and economic cycles with a depth of experience that is rare in the industry.

Binger began his investment career in Minneapolis with Lutheran Brotherhood in 1987, where he gained experience across multiple asset classes, including convertible bonds, small-cap equities, and large-cap equities. Following the 2001 merger of Lutheran Brotherhood and Aid Association for Lutherans into Thrivent Financial, he was selected as a senior portfolio manager on both the Large Cap Growth and Large Cap Alpha teams, helping manage more than $3 billion in assets.

In his role as a senior portfolio manager, Binger developed and oversaw tactical investment strategies used in mutual funds, variable annuities, pension funds, and insurance company products. His work included proprietary portfolio construction strategies, security selection methodologies, and volatility management techniques.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus in Finance from the University of Minnesota, graduating with honors and receiving the university’s Wall Street Journal Award. Binger is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute and the Twin Cities Society of Security Analysts.

Binger has been featured across major financial media outlets, including CNBC, Bloomberg TV, and Fox Business, and has been quoted in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Smart Money, Reuters, BusinessWeek, and other national and global investment media.

Keith Gangl, CFA®

Keith Gangl, CFA, serves as a portfolio manager at Gradient Investments, LLC, with more than 22 years of institutional investment management experience. He has a strong track record of performance across various market cycles and brings deep expertise in equity markets.

Prior to joining Gradient Investments, Gangl spent over 18 years at Thrivent Financial as a senior portfolio manager, covering a range of asset styles and market capitalizations while overseeing several billion dollars in assets. During his tenure, funds he managed earned two Lipper Leader Awards, recognizing consistent, strong risk-adjusted performance relative to peers.

Gangl’s responsibilities included developing and overseeing tactical investment strategies for mutual funds, variable annuities, pension funds, and insurance company products. His work incorporated proprietary portfolio construction approaches, security selection frameworks, and volatility control measures. He also played a key role in establishing and advancing the firm’s quantitative department, enhancing portfolio construction and risk monitoring capabilities.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Computer Science from St. John’s University and earned his MBA from the University of St. Thomas. Gangl is a CFA charterholder and a member of the Twin Cities Society of Security Analysts.
